VELMA "BETTY" GODDARD HAMMOND, IN Velma "Betty" Goddard "GaGa", age 92, of Hammond. Betty was born May 2, 1922, in Philcampbell, AL to Emmett and Pearl James. She entered into eternal life on Sunday January 11, 2015. She is survived by her special niece and nephew, caregivers Brenda and Michael Chodar; known as GaGa to three special great nieces and nephews, Ashley (Rafael) Gerodimos, Whitney and Matthew Chodor. VELMA "BETTY" GODDARD HAMMOND, IN Velma "Betty" Goddard "GaGa", age 92, of Hammond. Betty was born May 2, 1922, in Philcampbell, AL to Emmett and Pearl James. She entered into eternal life on Sunday January 11, 2015. She is survived by her special niece and nephew, caregivers Brenda and Michael Chodar; known as GaGa to three special great nieces and nephews, Ashley (Rafael) Gerodimos, Whitney and Matthew Chodor. Betty is also survived by special niece and caregiver Trudy Meyer; sister of Vernon (Donna) James, Delphia (Al) Carlisle, Shelby (Rodger) Masden, and Scarlett Maxcine Hinson; special aunt to many nieces, nephews, and also Joseph Ritchie and Arely Rizo. Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years Tom Goddard, parents, four brothers and two sisters. The family would like to give a special thank you to caregivers, Lydia, Nida, Alma, alpha Home Healthcare and Dr. S. J. Chan. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Pentecostals of Southlake Church, 1640 W 93rd Avenue, Crown Point with Pastors Robert Stroup and Michael James officiating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, Highland (two blocks south of Ridge Road). Betty was a resident of Northwest Indiana for over 60 years. Along with her husband, she was co-owner of Tom's Auto Sales in Gary. Betty enjoyed gardening, cooking, dancing, storytelling, and was the "baby and dog whisperer". She was a loving caregiver to many family and friends throughout her life. Betty was a beautiful, loving, generous, fun and strong willed woman with southern charm that will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. www.kuiperfh.com
